      Okay, so this is how the sounds get made live-more or less. The Tascam being the pivot point that joins the two systems and gives most of the levels that trademark Broke_Fi clip and buzz. 

       1) The main laptop (which does NOT angle downward far enough to get a superlative, professional-looking camera shot. Sorry about that). Contains the Glauco sequencer with all the presets and MIDI plugins not coming from the Music Station (immediate right)

       2) The Tascam, Grunge Box for a little extra nasty, 

       3) Asus tablet (atop Dell Almighty) mainly used to house extra samples and other audio files dropped into the mix via the selfsame Glauco sequencer albeit in a stripped down 2-track freeware version. A bitch to see a lot of the time when sharing the tablet's meager screen with multiple windows, including but not limited to a horrible camera shot....

       4) The SA 10. Yeah it's probably the single most underrated piece of musical equipment in the history of the synthesizer. We're talking deserted island shit here, my Ramenites. It's the ethanol that makes the dragster leave that distinct smell all over the venue.

                  I sincerely hope I have satisfactorily illumined what's going on in the shadows. I'm currently bidding on a couple of mid-range additions that I believe will fit into the current scheme and there's a "Buzz Box" pedal created by that Melvins guy I'm also seriously considering giving the proverbial day in court but, for now what you see here is what I'm workin' with. I gotta say I'm overall very satisfied with the results yielded soundwise. So there ya go....

     The "Wake Up and Fail" package. With the better of the two camera angles (marginally) synced with the soundboard audio, which I'm extremely happy with. Not bad at all for a couple freeware sequencers and archaic synthesizers. The audio package will be available from the online store posthaste. The second angle may be uploaded at a later date, if I can find the stomach for the task. The video editing software has its limitations, but I'm definitely considering making a "mini-set" I've agreed to in the future into a full-on multimedia presentation. Stay tuned for that and also a diagram of my invisible setup from the above video shortly....

     It was time to upload another one of these original session tapes from the early 00's. The original version was actually recorded onto the Porta02. I actually played the bass part (on a bass that is long gone-I believe it was a Fender, if my memory is correct.) ran thru the Grunge box just like the synth riff on newer version. I'm pretty sure I overdid it on the Arnold Murray samples, but the man was just a goldmine of material.

  So, I was going through several older cassettes looking for material to throw into the mix on the new project I'm working on when I found what appears to be an extra take of Dogboy and Substrance (which originally were actually recorded consecutively) that I can barely discern, in the recesses of my memory, even recording let alone whether it was actually captured before or after the version I ended up using on the album.  I'm leaning towards before,  just from the way certain things sound when juxtaposed against the album version, but I'm in no way positive about this...

     Needless to say, it was a pleasant surprise to find still intact and listenable (after a fashion) and also transferrable across multiple file formats that all treated the original recording fairly well. Also happily, YouTube accepted the entire 17-minute suite (including the bonus noises at the end) within their often meager time constraints- at 26 minutes, "Fistful of Bimbos" was rejected as too long. Now I'm considering uploading it in two parts if  I can find a suitable place to divide them.

    Anyway thanks to all those who have shown interest in my library of work, past and present, and I hope you enjoy.

        Whack Zeppelin (front and back covers displayed) was meant to be a full "concept" album -much like  Infrared Sauna- whilst also a departure from anything coherent or pleasant in terms of compositional structure. Indeed its purpose was to disturb the listener's psyche as well as offend their sensibilities. The sequencer presets as well as the FX69 Grunge Box were employed to push nearly every level in the equalizer over the top - at least in the cases where the tracks weren't laden with plenty of circuit noise and interference already.

            While certainly only a semi-serious undertaking at best when devised, the process of crafting the actual tracks and the transitions between them ended up being every bit as tedious and sometimes maddening a process as the recording of "Sauna" was but in the end I'm very happy with the final result. Rest assured, that in no way means I didn't spend as much time in cringe mode listening to the final full product back as the average casual listener will. Of this I'm sure. Mission accomplished.

           There are further ideas in the proverbial cooker presently but I don't see myself releasing and/or uploading any future projects a track at a time as I have been. I feel I'd much prefer to have the entire finished collection of tracks ready all at once from now on-at least that's how I feel about it for now....

     Built around a double-tracked note from one of the lovely Glauco presets, more an obvious homage to than a blatant ripoff of someone that you will know if you're halfass cool.

    It helps that treating my own vocals would be part of the design of such a homage because it's the best way to make them not quite as boring to me.

   There are several past and present percussion elements from most every piece of equipment in Broke_Fi's arsenal literally destroying each other in their efforts to be the focal point of this particular composition. Believe me, the final mix was plenty agitating. I can only hope it has the same effect on the audience.

One of the tracks from the album containing some more laid-back elements. That coupled with the fact that it's towards the end and in between two more frenetic tracks, it kinda fell thru the cracks. I definitely found the idea of overlapping the organ riffs appealing and I think it gives the track a feel that's more ominous and less sad than the album mix. (I also think both versions sound kind of forboding and more-or-less fitting in the current world in which the studio sits, but that's another pointless, discussion perhaps...)

   I was going for a brand of bombast that combined elements of the majestic with the grandiose and  the inharmonious. Distortion of the digital and analog variety are both included in the mix as well as parts from the recently resurrected SA-10-interestingly enough no effects were added to those, because none were needed. Put this thing in a category of stuff they "don't make like they used to" Absolute beasts of equipment do come in deceptively small packages.
    I can say this; I hope it's as disconcerting to listen to as it was fun for me to record. Because it is for me

In the latest Broke_Fi development: It turns out a potential failed soldering project is no longer necessary as the "5 AA batteries" restoration method has ensured the SA-10 (yes, THAT SA-10) is operational. No, I won't be leaving the batteries in when it's not being used and any amount of bummed-ness about not starting my first official c-bending project is replaced with the joy putting an old friend back to use in the studio scheme. Yeah this pretty much changes the game as they say...

     The re-recording of the alternate mixes from the Dingus Pipe sessions is ongoing. The concept for the original "bonus disc" was nothing fancy; a few tracks that had riffs or other sound snips running at staggered intervals were recorded with the loops running simultaneously and the samples were re-embellished and certain surprises were added.
     Broke_Fi has come somewhat forward from the days of Acid 2.0 as has its methods of preserving its recorded output. Meaning I'm able to find the sunny side of my rectum often enough to get a few things done.

Just a shade over 22 minutes of minimalist machinations.

     It tends to be, in many ways, a true industrial E.P. I wanted the drums to sound as manufactured as they possibly could and that's one of the aspects of the overall recording that I'm probably the most satisfied with. The FX^69 Grunge box works well at putting obscene distortion on certain things. The presets on the studio app used to record and master these tracks also put effects into others that blew them right out of the water.
           The Soundcloud Playlist features the original mix of "Fine Lines", which was mixed on one of Dell Almighty's final days.

So evidently, someone looped the drum fill for "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins for 30 minutes several years ago now. Not sure what their motivation was, but it has been used in a few projects that are floating around out there now. After a very short time, I realized this would be very effective as the basis of a composition. I figured -it would be complimented well by the "Known bug" setting from Reaktor 5. The rest of it is obviously my double- tracked voice and assorted outbursts from the Synths. The FX69 and presets from the DAW added a heavy amount of distortion.
  I felt like it was a good closing track for the album.

The vocals on this consist largely of material culled from a mountain of cassettes from the Mushroom Concern sessions with a few new additions to make a somewhat cohesive ,...well I dunno if "song" would be the right label to put on it (hell, I'm not even 100% comfortable even describing it as cohesive, now that I think about it), but I'm certainly pleased with the overall results- despite the fact that I had to spend a more-than-desired amount of time working around the limitations of a lot of my equipment that have ended up staring me in the face. That said, I certainly wasn't expecting to be finished with this track, but I sat down to see what I could drop into it and get done with it and the final necessary elements just fell into place. So here we are. Which is good, because the meat of the next (and final) track is already in the mental blender.
